New builder at Plum Creek in Kyle

Bigelow Homes enters market in second phase of Kyle's Plum Creek

Bigelow Homes said it would build homes in Plum Creek, the Kyle mixed-use development that is expanding into a second phase.

Chicago-based Bigelow said it would offer 10 floor plans starting this fall, ranging from 1,100 to 3,000 square feet.

The company already builds homes in Blanco River Village in San Marcos.

Plum Creek is built on the principles of New Urbanism, which include walkable neighborhoods with shops, schools and community amenities near homes.

"Creating points of interaction is a priority for Plum Creek," said Bigelow CEO Jamie Bigelow. "The presence of a neighborhood, places for people to enjoy friends and family, attracted us" to the development.

There are 1,500 homes in Plum Creek now. Austin Community College recently said it would buy 96 acres nearby for a future campus there.

Chicago-based Bigelow Homes will begin building homes in Kyle's mixed-use, master-planned Plum Creek community this fall.

The 2,200-acre community near the intersection of Fairway and FM 2770 was founded by Plum Creek Development Partners in 1997, and currently houses about 1,500 homes. Plans to build an Austin Community College campus (if the district is annexed), nursing home and rehabilitation center, 264-unit apartment building, and other projects are in the works.

Bigelow plans to start selling homes ranging from 1,100 square feet to 3,000 square feet this fall. The company has signed on for 40 new builds in the development's Negley Elementary, Plum Creek Square and Kohler’s Crossing tracts, with the possibility to add more. Prices will range from the 120s to 200s.

The company first entered the Central Texas market in the Blanco River Village development in San Marcos four years ago.
